Just An Ordinary Day

Yes, summer is just flying on by.  There is only one week of summer school left and that means only three more weeks until the regular school year starts....the unofficial end of summer.  We are to the point in our summer where Bobby is bored.  Let's face it, I am bored too.

For some crazy reason, Extended School Year (ESY) does not bore him.  He loves it and starts asking for his teacher and the school bus as soon as his feet hit the ground in the morning.  Makes for a LONG morning for mommy.  "Yes Bobby, you are going to ride the school bus.  Yes Bobby, you are going to see Ms. Deb."  This conversation gets old quickly!!!!
He happily gets into the car to drive to the bus stop, then gets on the bus with ease.  I then go home and say "ahhhhhhhh, listen to the quiet."

Yes, everyday after ESY we stop off at his behavioral therapists office for his ABA session.  His head was in space today while he was waiting for his appointment.
I have a surprise for him.  I cancelled his sessions for the two weeks between the end of ESY and the beginning of the regular school year.  Two full weeks with no appointments!!  How will we fill our days???  Sounds like a good idea now, but a couple days into it, chances are that I'll have a different perspective!!

In the afternoon, we decided to go visit Daddy at work.  Boy do we know how to P.A.R.T.Y!!  Bobby was convinced that we were at the "swimming pool" and Daddy walked him around the building a couple of times and poor kid never did find the swimming pool so he was ready to go.  For some odd reason there was a paper KING crown in Daddy's office.  Daddy passed the crowd down to his child and Bobby was the king for the day!!
On the ride back to home, Bobby started saying "it's a train" repeatedly as we got closer to the exit for the mall.  All right Bobby, we will go to the mall and you can ride the train.  Besides, we got nothing else going on.

As soon as we walked into the mall, Bobby took me to his favorite retail location.....the shipping doors located in the appliance department in the Sear's store.

At this point, I'm doing a delicate balancing act....I want a picture, but he gets a little brave and opens the door, "Dude, you can't go in there!!"  Of course this is the point in which a sales clerk comes over, "can I help you?"  Me:  "He has autism and he is fascinated by these particular doors.  I have no idea why."  Clerk:  "Interesting!!!!  Just these doors?"  Me:  "Well basically yes."  Clerk:  "Interesting."

Each time I give less and less information.  When he was younger I would tell the poor clerk a 5 minute history of Bobby and his issues with autism and why we were looking at the doors.  Now, just so they don't call security to follow us around, I give them the 5 second version.

Finally we were off to the train and SCORE, there was actually someone there to give train rides.  We paid our money and rode around the mall.  CHOO CHOO.....boy, we are really partying today!!!

I was a little shocked by how many people were at the mall on a Thursday afternoon, but then it hit me, duh, people are back to school shopping.  Lots of kids store bags in hand!!  Justice everywhere!

Before we left, we made a pit stop at the food court for some take home Chinese cuisine.  When Bobby realized that someone was putting lo mein noodles into a container, he was trying to get over the counter to get to them.  "Calm down, we are going to eat these at home!!"  Bobby sat right down at the table when we walked through our door and didn't get up until all of his noodles were gone.

He was in such a better mood for the evening after getting to walk and ride around the mall.  He got into the pool and swam for a while.
Followed by his favorite shows, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.  Oh by the way, you might have noticed that he has a new hair cut.  We are finally to the point in his life where surviving a hair cut is no longer news worthy.  When he was younger, I never dreamed that this would be a reality!!  Hallelujah!!!!  Now to figure out something fun for us to do today!!
