A Sensory Fun Evening

Bobby was a little grouchy on Friday evening, so we got out some sensory stimulating activities to make him happy and calm him down.  Playing in moon sand was the first activity.
Bobby loves to feel this texture between his fingers.  He also loves to watch it fall in front of his eyes.
No, it's not snowing!!  Just a moon sand shower!!
Throwing it up so that it can fall in front of his eyes.

After the moon sand fun was over, I washed out the sand box.  I decided to fill the box with water since I already had the hose out.  It took Bobby a little while before he got interested in the water because it wasn't very hot out.  First he put his hands in and splashed around.
His bottom is dirty from sitting in a pile of dirt before he came over to play in the water.  He then got over the coldness of the water and sat down to have some real fun.
Amazing how this makes him so happy.  Love the smile on his face.
Now the whole body needs to wet.  Hey Bobby, we have a swimming pool!!
He found his favorite cups and started pouring the water in front of his eyes for some visual stimulation...
He pours it into his mouth and lets the water run out...

Then he started pouring it over his body...
Bobby then remembered that we have a swimming pool, jumped up out of the sand box and ran over to the pool gate and waited for it to be opened.
More Bobby smiling, less Bobby grouchiness!!!
You have to make BIG splashes!!!
Bobby got out, we went inside got ready for bed, watched a little TV and had a great evening.  It is amazing how sensory stimulation changes this boy's attitude!!!

The End Of ESY 2012

Today was water play day at ESY.  The kids all took beach towels and changes of clothes so that they could go outside and play in the sprinklers and other water activities that the teachers set up.  They had water play day today instead of tomorrow, which is the actual last day of ESY, because many of the kids don't go on Thursdays and would miss all of the fun.

I really wanted to go and take pictures of Bobby and friends while they were playing in the water, but I didn't want to ruin the fun for Bobby.  When I show up he wants to leave NOW!!  I sucked it up and waited until the end of the school day and showed up with my camera to take some pictures.  I wanted to go in today to make sure to get pictures of Sonny too and today is his last day of ESY.

Sing along:  "Clean Up, Clean Up, everybody everywhere...Clean Up, Clean Up, everybody do your share!!"
Ms. Debby said that Bobby and the rest of the kids had a GREAT time playing in the water.  SO MUCH FUN!!
Our friend Wesley. We are so sad that Wesley will be going to a new school next year since they moved.  They won't get to be classmates again until ESY next summer.  He was sitting and relaxing, waiting to go home.  His teacher started talking to him each time I snapped a picture and he looked over towards her.
The obvious place to find Sonny.  He LOVES the computer.  Looks like he needs a taller chair or shorter table!!
Bobby was ready to go home.  Time to get his backpack out of his cubby.

I am so sad that tomorrow is the last day of ESY and I am always shocked that ESY goes by so quickly.  Only a few more weeks until the beginning of the 2nd grade.  Where does the time go?

It's A Good Day

You may have to be a parent of a child with autism and bowel issues to think that this is funny:

Ms. Debby (Bobby's summer school teacher) brought him out to me when school was over today and said, "Bobby had a GREAT DAY!!!  There was only one other student in the room with him today, so I think that he did so much better with less noise and stimulation."  I held my hand up to stop her talking.   Me:  "Bobby had a big poop yesterday evening.  We had the best evening that we have had in weeks yesterday!!!"  Ms. Debby, Ms. Lori, Mr. Steve and myself all started laughing out loud.  Ms. Lori:  "It is all about the poop here isn't it!!"

Even better news, he had another one when we got home today and he has been awesome!!  Hoping for another great evening and another great day at school tomorrow.  After all, "It's all about the poop around here!!"

Water and Dirt

We finally got some rain.  Our poor dead grass, flowers, and trees with the leaves falling off were in desperate need of some rain and they got it.  Too bad that this morning was a foggy, misty, yucky morning because it was one of the scheduled pool mornings at Krepps for people with special needs and I hated for Bobby to miss the fun.  He has been climbing the walls for the past couple of days being stuck inside.  It cleared up this afternoon and Bobby was going outside like it or not!!!!  His new favorite thing in this world is to play with the water hose.  He loves, loves, loves it.

Zoi had to come outside too!!!

Bobby hasn't been playing in the dirt much outside because the ground has been so dry that the dirt is not fun to play in.  But since it rained the dirt is just the way Bobby likes it and he sat down and played, played, played...Bobby style, of course.

He went down to the new wall that Daddy built for him earlier this summer by his playground and played in the dirt some more.

Finally came inside for dinner and is having the best evening that he has had in a few days.  Thank you for coming back Mr. Golden Sun!!!

Weekend pics

Bobby has taken a little break from the swimming pool.  Guess that swimming each and every day gets a little boring after a while.  So, out with the hose for some water fun.

Not only is Bobby out in the front of our house playing in the hose, he is also watching our neighbors put up their new pool and he wants to watch every move.
I noticed a big old bees nest while we were sitting out front watching Bobby play in the water.  It is in a tree that is away from the houses (just looks close from the zoom lens).  Better in the tree than on the side of our house like the one we had a couple of years ago.

Bobby has been weaned off of his medication in the past couple of months.  He has been totally off of the med for almost 2 weeks and he has started eating some new foods.  This past week he has eaten popcorn shrimp, pizza, grilled cheese, chicken breast tenders and fish.  Sure beats the french fry diet that he had almost restricted himself to eat (honestly, he wasn't eating much more than that).
Bobby eating some fish.  Granted, it is Long John Silver's fish, but I never dreamed that he would take a bite of any fish ever!!!
