Getting a Jump Start To Help Out Santa's Elves

Last year's Christmas was the best ever in Bobby's World.  He came downstairs on Christmas morning, sat down in front of the pile of presents under the tree and started opening.  It was a far cry from past years when we had to prompt him to open each gift and for years they sat unopened for days until we opened them for him because he was just too overwhelmed.

We are anticipating this year's Christmas to be even better!!  Bobby has actually been looking at the items on the shelves while we are in stores lately and not just at the shelves themselves.  In the past few months, he has begun picking out items in stores and putting the desired item into the shopping cart.  We are getting excited for him.....Christmas morning with items that he actually picks out and actually wants!!  There was a time that we didn't think that this would ever be possible.

I took him with me to Target today after school to pick up a few needed items.  He did a great job and started off with his favorite activity at Target...."push the buggy."
Then he said "computer....Elmo" which means, I want a new Elmo movie to watch in the computer.
He picked out which one he wanted and threw it into the cart and we were off throughout the rest of the store.
We had to stop and look at the Christmas lights for a couple of minutes before we were off again.
We needed some rice cakes for his lunch box this week.
It took his a few tries, but he figured out how to turn the cart around because he wanted to look at all of the handles of the freezer doors in the long perfect line.....oh how he loves lines!!
We picked up the rest of the items on our shopping list and he was doing such a great job that I prompted him over to the toy department to see if he was interested in any toys for potential Christmas gifts.
He LOVES to run around this baby crib and look through the slats....after all they are perfectly lined up!!  I typically let him run around here whenever we are in Target.  I then prompted him towards the toy aisle and funny enough Elmo was right there front and center.  He went right over and picked something off of the shelf and put it into the cart.....
What????  That's not an Elmo toy!!!  He picked up this super soft blue dog and put it in the cart and started off with the cart!!  Oh my goodness, I can't even get over this.  I put it back because we are getting Christmas ideas and he already has an Elmo DVD in the cart.

I am so super excited with Target's toy department this year.  They have a section of Mindware toys and now have Bobby's favorite Magna Tiles and Tegu toys that we have had to order or drive to a small toy store in Pittsburgh to purchase for him in the past.  Bobby and I walked through the aisle that has the Magna Tiles because I was sure that he would pick up some new ones, however, he had other ideas.....

He picked up this set off of the shelf and immediately put it into the shopping cart!  It's something new and he picked it out!!  He looked at these HexBugs for a minute, he has had one from a happy meal and he actually carried it around with him for days.
He then went over to the Mega Bloks and picked out a couple of sets for himself.
I had to keep reminding myself of my mission....ideas for Santa....and I put everything back on the shelf.  He wanted a couple packs of these wiffle balls too!!
Then we walked through the aisle with sleds and this happened.....

Ok Santa, Bobby would like the blue, long sled!!  Yes, I put it back too.  I felt horrible, but I did it and he didn't fuss.  Onward through the store we went, until he spotted one of his favorites....
He is trying his hardest to get a copy of Elmo's World Happy Holidays DVD off of the rack.  No way dude!!  We have a couple of copies of this and have it streamed onto his iPad and on our Vudu account so that he can watch it on all of our tv/devices.  He watches this movie almost every day.
He was fine with not getting another copy, but he was DETERMINED he was getting this Dora movie and I let him have it.  It was only $5 and I had put everything else back.
We went to the front to check out and he waited in line like a champ!!!
After we paid, he pushed the cart, "buggy," to the car.
I could have never even anticipated such a successful outing!!  For the first time ever, when Daddy and I go on our annual Santa shopping for Bobby day, we are actually going to have a Bobby picked out list!!!  We couldn't be more excited!!

Oh, by the way, it is Tuesday, October 28 and Bobby is out shopping in shorts and a t-shirt because it is 80 degrees today.  However this Friday, trick or treat night, cold rain and snow are in the forecast. Gotta love this time of year in WV!!

Good-Bye

It's here, it's finally here.  October 24th, oh how I have been dreading this day.  My friend Noelle leaves today.  She is moving to California and the chance that she ever moves back to West Virginia is a .0000000001% chance.  I am sad, just down right sad.  However, this is causing my beloved husband to step up his game and he is trying so very hard to cheer me up which has been funny, because he is just a funny guy!

So my friend Noelle, I will miss you.  I will miss our morning walks to the dog park, which in our crazy world of autism, have been great therapy sessions with an added benefit of exercise for us and the dogs.

I will miss watching sweet, beautiful Natalie grow up in person.  I so completely thankful for social media so that I won't miss this all together.  I will miss watching Bobby and Natalie have new adventures together and enjoy their tried and true favorite activities together.......can you say swimming!!

I will miss having family fun together.

However, what I will miss the most is just our friendship.  Going out for breakfast, or lunch, or shopping without the kids and without the dogs......ahhhhhhh.  Our little autism mom group just won't be the same without you!!!!!

Greg....I hope that you find job satisfaction!!  I hope that the California sunshine brings great things to you and your wonderful family.  I am so thankful that you brought them to West Virginia and that I was able to be a part of your day to day lives for a few short years.

Natalie, oh Miss Natalie.....I hope that you love your new school and teachers and that you have an easy transition to your new life in California.  I can't wait to hear about all of the great progress that you will make in your life!!!!

Noelle.....I'm not sure how time got away from us and we didn't get you to a tattoo shop to brand you with a flying WV so that you will never forget that you are a Mountaineer!!!  (I had to throw a little laugh in here!!)  I'm going to quote from the Golden Girl's theme song now!!!! Your heart is true, your a pal and a confidant.

This is my gift and the card attached simply says..........

THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND!!!!
