Coloring Easter Eggs

Earlier in the week I posted a question on facebook asking my friends if anyone knew of a synthetic egg for Bobby to color for Easter.  I really didn't think that it would go well with real eggs.  A couple of friends posted links to EggNots which look awesome and I may just have to order some for next year.  One friend also suggested dying wooden eggs from Michael's.  Grandma Carolyn came over Wednesday to help Bobby and me color some wooden eggs...
We had to soak each egg multiple times, take it out of dye and let it dry and then put it back in the dye, to achieve the vibrant color.  Not sure what happened to the poor purple egg, it looked a little sad.  Bobby wasn't interested in the whole dying process, he just wanted to take all of the eggs and shuffle them together in his hands.
Grandma Carolyn and I decided to try to add some bling to these eggs.  So we got out some pretty papers and got to work...
Bobby wasn't too impressed with this craziness, he just wanted to play with the eggs...
Grandma Carolyn worked hard creating a pretty bunny to Mod Podge onto her egg....
Oops....turned out a little too big.  Back to the drawing board!!

The whole egg decorating session went downhill quickly.  All that Bobby wanted to do was "ride in car" and he let us know over and over and over and over.  Yes, Bobby we hear you!!!  Daddy came home from work and said, "Here's some money, go pick up some dinner."  Bobby finally got to go for a ride in Grandma's car.

He still wasn't feeling well and this was him after dinner...
I didn't feel too well either.  I was so super tired that all I wanted to do was LAY DOWN!!!  I filled the kitchen sink with hot soapy water and put the dirty dishes in that I don't put into the dish washer.  I typically do this and let the dishes soak anywhere between 5 minutes to a couple of hours before I do the dishes.  However, I went to bed early and left the dishes in the sink.  Boy, I hate it when I do this...who wants to wake up to a sink full of dirty dishes!

Bobby decided to "help" Mommy with the dishes and put the dyed wooden eggs in the water too, so they got an all night bath.  No, I didn't get my camera out and capture the moment.  I just sighed and threw the eggs in the trash, then drained the awful colored dish water.

I didn't get my camera out on Thursday, shocking I know, so apparently Thursday didn't really exist...or did it??!!!

Yay!!  It's finally Friday.  6 days down and 4 to go.

Spring Break Sick Day

The least perfect way to spend a spring break day....laying around sick.  Bobby woke up at 2:00 am burning hot and vomiting.  Fortunately after the early morning vomiting session ended, the high fever left.  He finally fell back to sleep around 6 am but only slept until 8 am.  We got up and I made him his normal breakfast of toast and bacon, which sat there for a few hours until Zoi couldn't stand it anymore and ate it for him.

This was the scene in our house all day yesterday....

He laid around all day watching tv, which is definitely NOT typical Bobby behavior.  One minute he would be watching tv and then I would look over and he would be sleeping.
Poor Zoi was bored.  "Aren't we gonna go outside and play??  Woof."
Bobby moved around the house all day to find a new place to lay down and watch tv...

Around 4:00 pm, he finally ate 6 mini rice cakes, which was the only thing that he ate all day, and then went to bed...

I usually don't wake Bobby up when he is sick, but at 6:00 pm I decided to wake him up hoping that we would have a better nights sleep.  Boy, talk about a hard task.  The poor kid did NOT want to get up.  So I made him a bed on the couch and he laid around until bedtime...

His symptoms were exactly the same as when he had the flu during Christmas break.  However, on a scale of 1 to 10 his sickness over Christmas was a 9 and yesterday was a 2.  The symptoms were much less severe and much shorter in duration.

He slept well last night.  Woke up a little after 6 and got me up because he wanted to go downstairs.  I made him a soft pretzel and he ate 1/2.  He then ate 2 slices of bacon and drank some water.  He is now playing (well arranging his blocks on the table) in the kitchen...up off of the couch!!  We will see how he feels in a little while and hopefully he can go back to therapy today.

4 days down...6 to go!!

A Snowy Day 3 of Spring Break

We woke up to 4 1/2 inches of snow on day 3 of spring break.  Daddy had to get up earlier for work and plow our road since he took the winter tires off of our cars last weekend.  I guess that there is a small bonus to getting a snow day during spring break...we won't have to make up this school day.

Daddy's snow removal was helped out by the 34 degree temps and our hill was completely clear by the afternoon so Bobby didn't have to miss his behavioral therapy appointment...which by the way, he totally nailed!!  So for a reward I took him to Chick fil A for some waffle fries.

After we got home I brought Bobby inside and bundled him up to go outside and play in the snow.  When we went out it was clearing up and no more snow was falling...

He wasn't outside long before it started snowing again.  Bobby decided to go up into his playground fort to seek some shelter while I stayed in the dry comfort of our garage and used my zoom lens to get some close up shots....

In the short amount of time it took him to climb the stairs and get into the fort, it turned from snowy to blizzard like!!  He stayed in the fort for a while, but eventually had to come down and face the heavy snowfall...

The sliding board must have had too much snow on it to come down that way because Bobby walked around to the other side of the play unit and cleaned the slide off.  He didn't however, go back up and come down the slide.
 Poor birdie....

He didn't stay out long once the heavy snow started since it was sooooo wet.  He is taking his glove off in this last pic with his mouth even though it looks like he is sharing his feelings about all of this wet, heavy snow.

Ohhhh, what a super fun spring break this has become (cough, cough).  Day 4 started off at 2 am with a high fever (that didn't last too long) and vomiting.  Whoot Whoot!! Just thankful that our power remained on throughout all of this snow since so many in the area were not so fortunate.

Day 2 of Spring Break-The Easter Tree

This was the scene at the Smith house on Sunday morning....
Bobby hanging out in his underwear watching Elmo and Zoi, well I'm not sure what got into her.  She knows that she isn't allowed on the couch, but this morning, she did NOT care!!  I can tell by her white hair on the dark brown couch that she doesn't lay there while we are gone.  After all, she loves, and typically lays, on her temper-pedic bed.  She just looked at me, like what are you gonna do???  "I'm laying here...get over it!!!!  Woof"
Yes, Bobby is still watching Elmo.
We all finally got up, bathed and got ready to get out of the house and "blow the stink off of us," which is one of Bob's favorite sayings.  Apparently we stink badly because we have to get out and blow this stink off!!

We decided to go to Walmart and get Daddy some new work pants, which he needed for Monday.  Bobby doesn't like Walmart so we typically don't go when he is with us, or I go in by myself and the boys sit in the car.  He hadn't been exposed to Walmart in a while, so we needed to see if he could tolerate it any better.  While I was digging through the work pants trying to find the correct style and size, Bob took Bobby for a walk through the store...which did NOT go well.  Bobby wanted out the back door in the tire department to the parking lot to escape from the store.  Poor Bob had to try to get Bobby back into the store and get Mommy all while he is having a fit.  Parental nightmare!!  They finally succeeded, found me, paid for the pants and left Walmart.  Too many sounds, smells, light, etc for Bobby.

Then we took Bobby to McDonald's so that he could calm down.  A couple of bites of his coveted McDonald's french fries and all was right again in Bobby's world.

A group of four girls in their late teens came in and sat down behind us.  I could see them get out of their cars in the parking lot and watched them walk in so I knew that they were going to the Luke Bryan concert later in the day because their cars were decorated for the event.  They sat directly behind me so I could hear their conversation.  At one point, I laughed out loud.  Bob looked at me and I said that I would tell him later.  As we walked to the car, I recounted their conversation to Bob in which they discussed how they were all going to be Luke Bryan's "Sister Wives" and that he would have a blond, brunette and a redhead all at his convenience.   Ahhh, once upon a time I was a teenager too and didn't really have anything of much importance to occupy my brain.  How wonderful it would be to let my brain have that kind of relief for just a little while everyday.  However, they too will grow up...hopefully...and have the stresses of jobs, children and family.  Who knows, they may already have major stressors in their lives, but it did bring me back to a point in my life, where all I had to worry about was grades.

Finally, we went to Michael's Arts and Crafts store before heading home.  Bob and Bobby went ahead and sat in the car while I ran in and got my items.    I got some wooden eggs for Bobby (as well as Grandma Carolyn and me) to dye later in the week.  I also got some things to decorate the pencil tree that I use on my back porch at Christmas time to make an Easter tree for Bobby.  If you recall, Bobby loves our Christmas tree and I thought that this would be a fun activity that we could do together to occupy a little time from our spring break.
I went downstairs and got the pencil tree out of storage.  I also had to get into some storage containers of Christmas decorations and find some white lights.  Bobby decided that he would "help" put the lights onto the tree.
Yes, that's it...they should all go right here!!!
Perfect, just clump them all in the front so that they are very visible!!
OH NO, I think he made the tree a little front heavy and over it went.  Pretty sure this scared him and he ran off for a little while.
Yay, Mommy got the lights on, time to decorate!!!
I bought him a couple of "treats" while I was at Michael's...this chain that he has had in his hands since I gave it to him (and he is carrying them around this morning as I write this blog).  Wish that I would have picked up a couple of more sets!!  I also found this pompom chain that he tried to use to help decorate the tree...
Then he took it off so that he could have it for play.
I finally sat the camera down, which by the way is hard for me, and we got the tree decorated!!!

Poor Bobby can't decide which way to look...the tree or the falling snow!

Our finished Easter tree.  A little later I walked to the kitchen and saw Bobby and knew that the Easter tree was a success....
He was just laying on the floor looking at the tree.  Yes, I know....ahhhhhh how sweet!!!

Two days of spring break down, 8 to go!!  Since we woke up to 4 1/2 inches of snow on the ground, day three will probably consist of some snow play!!
