This year I went back and forth many, many times on how to celebrate Bobby's birthday. For me, I would love to have a big party and invite all of our family and friends. For Bobby, he seems to prefer not to have crowds of people around. By Wednesday, I finally decided that I would invite Sonny and Joey over to help celebrate (sorry for the late invitation boys, glad that your social calendar wasn't already booked!!).
The boys started off playing on the playground and jumping in the trampoline, but I didn't have my camera handy. Bobby went off and played in his moon sand mixture (which helps calm him when feeling stressed, so play away Bobby!!)
Sonny and Joey alternated between "Rhino Rides With Bob" and sandbox play...
Finally!! Time to go inside for dinner, the most important blowing out of the birthday candles and presents!!
We had pepperoni rolls for Bobby, pizza for Sonny, hot dogs and chips for the rest of us. Autism families will totally understand this last sentence!! Yes Bobby, you finally get to "blow out the candles, blow." (Bobby has been saying this statement ALL day).
I moved the cake into the dining room, which was decorated, for better pictures. Of course, we had to blow the candles out again. Sonny and Joey helped the second time.
The boys were ready to go back outside and play. Bobby got back into the flour mixture and needed washed off. I had him get into the swimming pool to wash off. Bobby likes cold water and has no problem getting into the pool this time of year. Of course Sonny and Joey wanted to go swimming too, but I honestly didn't think that they would get in when they stuck their feet into the cold, cold water. However...
They all got in and had major swimming fun!! Sonny was the first to get out...
Joey was the biggest surprise of the party. He became a daredevil and finally jumped into the pool. He jumped once and didn't stop!!! "Take my picture!!"
Excuse all of the underwear shots!!
Since it was getting cold outside and the boys were freezing from swimming, Daddy got out the firepit and built a fire.
They played on the swingset and in the trampoline a little while longer and the party wrapped up. It was almost 8:30 when Shelly took the boys home and Joey, who usually is kicking and screaming when it is time to go because he doesn't want to leave, got right into the car (pretty sure he fell asleep on the ride home). Bob commented last night that this was Bobby's best birthday party ever. Bobby wasn't overwhelmed and didn't try to escape from everyone and I wasn't stressed out from having a big party. A good time was had by all!! Since today is actually Bobby's birthday, there may be a trip to the golden arches in Bobby's near future.
