What a way to start a Monday morning...a before school dentist appointment for Bobby. Yeah!! So much fun!!! At least Daylight Savings Time was on our side. We had to be out of the house 45 minutes earlier than normal, so being up at our normal time, too early for the rest of the week, was perfect for us today.
I have to say, Mr. Bobby Smith did an awesome job today!!!!! His best dental appointment ever complete with NO ONE RESTRAINING HIM!!!!!!! Whoo Hoo, a HUGE, HUGE success in Bobby's World. I did what most autism mommy's do....I took over the show. This is how we are gonna do it!! After all, his poor hygienist and his dentist have no idea about his behavioral strategies from therapy and school.
Bobby sat in the chair unassisted and I continually prompted him to put his feet out on the chair and to keep his hands down. I had the hygienist give me a mirror and I practiced with him until the dentist arrived. He got to have breaks where he got out of the chair and looked out the window for a minute before being prompted back to the chair. He even let the dentist scrape his bottom front teeth because I cannot get in there very well with a toothbrush. He then let her brush his teeth which is the first time anyone else actually got to get in there and brush. He even sat in the seat while the dentist and I chatted when she was finished with him. I didn't realize that he still has 12 baby teeth to loose. He followed all of the verbal prompting throughout his appointment extremely well. No cavities or problems, so we don't have to come back for six months. Poor kid deserved to go somewhere to celebrate, but off to school we went and were even there early.

He played outside all day yesterday. Daddy and I made Bobby a big pile of leaves to play in and it entertained him for well over an hour. Obviously I had to run back into the house and grab my camera...

Bobby had big fun on Saturday evening...a birthday swim party at the Health Plex in Fairmont. I didn't take my camera with me, shocking I know, so I don't have any pictures. He obviously had a GREAT time because he brought me my bathing suit numerous times yesterday and said "swimman, swimman, swimman."
I don't know about you but I can't wait until tomorrow is over so that we can go back to a political ad free television, radio and computer life for a few months!!
