Back Into The Groove

One thing that I have figured out to be true this summer break....Mother Nature does not have a child with autism who lives and breathes to play outside.  We would definitely not have this much rain!!  Come on now, please, enough with the wet soggy ground...Bobby wants to play outside.  The pool water can't get warm because more and more water keeps getting added.  Bobby is bored, and this generally doesn't happen in the summer!  He has been out of school for two weeks and has had very little outdoor time and extremely little pool time.

This morning his two week summer vacation ended and he got on the school bus and headed back off to school.  Funny this is....he was so happy to get on that school bus.  Routine and and normalcy are back in his life.  Forty-five minutes after I drove back into the garage, all of the beds were made, all of the laundry was sorted and the first load started, and the most important thing to me....all of Bobby's toys were back into the bins and sitting on their proper places in the shelves of Bobby's bedroom.  Ahhhhhh, the quiet!!!

I debated against it, but....I went and picked Bobby up from school.  I went in early so that I could talk with his teacher...yes, I am one of THOSE moms!!!  I was in the hallway talking with one of the classroom aides, who happened to be one of the aides in Bobby's pre-K class a few years ago, when Bobby's teacher noticed me.  She ran out to talk to me, "OH MY GOD!!  I can't believe the progress that he has made!!" (She has been his summer school teacher for the past few years).  Yes, she knows how to put a smile on this mom's face.

Bobby's summer school teacher also told me that Ms. Kim, Bobby's regular teacher, stopped by this morning to work with Bobby and show the summer school staff what Bobby is working on and how to work with him.  Yay!!  What a successful first day!

I took my camera into the classroom to get some pictures of Bobby's teacher and aides so that we can work on their names in therapy.  I also took a couple of pictures of Bobby's friends, but they didn't come out as good as I would have liked since he was hanging by my arm at this point trying to get me to take him home.

Amazingly, the sun came out today and it got hot out.  Bobby wanted to swim as soon as he got home...

Followed by some behavioral therapy.  Welcome to summer Mr. Bobby....let the scheduled, routined days that make you happy begin!!
