We added an exercise goal to Bobby's programs (my waiver friends will understand this statement), so when his respite worker came over today we decided to take Bobby for a walk at the Warf District Rail Trail.
I used to take Bobby for walks on the rail trail when he was in a stroller, but I didn't really want to take him to the river front after he became a walker, especially by myself. Now that he has a young respite worker, we can take him to new places and still keep him safe.
Funny thing happened...when we got out of the car, he reached for my hand and held it for a long time until I finally took my hand away to get him to walk independently. It took him a while before he wasn't intimidated by his surroundings.
I verbally prompted him to stop, turn around and look at the camera. He's saying "cheese" in the picture.
We were all sweating by this point, so Bobby decided that he was going to take his clothes off! NO!!
He listened and put his shirt back down. We made it down to the amphitheater (we parked by the Jeep dealership) and decided to turn around. Bobby really seemed to like the fountain.
Still watching the water shoot in the air....wishing that he could get under the water and play. He tried to get down each path down to the water that we passed, but he did a pretty good job following verbal directions.
Once we started back and we past the bridge, he keep trying to get off of the trail into the bushes or over the hill. He finally said "potty." Ugh, it took alot of verbal prompting to get him back to the car without peeing in the grass. He did a good job considering, did NOT pee anywhere, got in the car and came home to use the bathroom.
We will definitely keep doing this, but at a cooler time of day and I will make sure that he uses the potty before he leave home. All in all, a great first attempt. We will keep adding some new places to walk into Bobby's exercise goal.
